Marina Del Rey
The design of his project is the result of requirements that initially seemed to be in conflict with one another. The owner requested additional closet space that required enclosing an existing loft, but wanted to keep it as “open” as possible. The owner also requested that a place to hang artwork be considered while designing the enclosure.
These requirements, including the apparent contradiction that an “enclosure” should be simultaneously “open”, yielded an design that employs opaque, translucent and transparent materials. The enclosure transmits light and provides visual continuity between the upper and lower levels of the space while also creating an expansive closet and dressing area.
Here, the enclosure is the artwork, freed from the vocabulary of the existing space to satisfy both the functional and aesthetic requirements of the project.
